HiSky shuts down Oradea–Bergamo route from May. The moldavian-romanian airline that has been operating the Oradea–Milano (Bergamo) route since last fall, has announced the complete suspension of this service. As a result, potential travelers will not be able to book tickets for this route starting in May.

On the other hand, HiSky will resume its Oradea–London (Stansted) route this week with three flights per week, after reducing the frequency to two weekly flights in January.

What Are Our Options to Milano Now?

Several passengers have expressed frustration with HiSky’s services. “Zero professionalism from HiSky!” and “How will we get to Milano this summer? HiSky canceled its OMR–BGY flights,” were some of the complaints shared by readers of Bihoreanul. Some travelers also reported their flights from Oradea being canceled four days before departure without any explanation.

In addition to these complaints, passengers also pointed out that the airline had canceled several Oradea–Milano flights this winter at least 14 days in advance. This practice is common among airlines, which use it to avoid compensating passengers when they anticipate low occupancy for specific flights.

The Suspension of Flights

Bihoreanul learned that HiSky will entirely suspend its Oradea–Bergamo flights. The company notified Oradea Airport’s management about this last week, but no public announcements were made regarding this change.

“Last Thursday, on March 19, HiSky sent us an operational email informing us that it would suspend the Milan flights until the end of the summer season, starting from May 3,” said Răzvan Horga, the manager of Oradea Airport, without explaining why the public was not informed earlier about this decision.

It remains unclear whether the flights will resume during the winter season.

Reduced Demand

“HiSky will no longer operate the Milan (Bergamo) route due to the low occupancy of flights this winter,” said Mihaela Nastea, interim director of Air Oradea, the company owned by the local municipality and the Bihor County Council, which has signed a contract with the airline.

Under the contract, HiSky had committed to operating five weekly flights between Oradea and Bucharest, as well as three weekly flights between Oradea and London (Stansted) for five years, starting in October last year, in exchange for a total subsidy of €750,000 (equivalent to €150,000 per year).

“Milan flights were not part of the agreement between HiSky and Air Oradea. By suspending these flights, the company is not violating the contractual terms,” Nastea explained.
