Aeroexpress suspends its Budapest – Cluj-Napoca route. The regional hungarian airline will suspend its flights between the Hungarian capital and the major Transylvanian city at the start of the summer schedule period.

With the transition to the summer schedule over the weekend, Aeroexpress will halt its Budapest-Cluj-Napoca flights. According to booking system data, tickets for this route are still available for March 26 and 28.

In response to AIRportal.hu’s inquiry, Aeroexpress confirmed the suspension, stating that flights on this route will be temporarily discontinued starting in April 2025.

The airline explained that the decision was driven by significant changes in passenger demand following the opening of Schengen borders in January. These changes have made it unfeasible to continue operating the route under current conditions.

Aeroexpress emphasized its commitment to resuming the service as soon as possible in an improved format and asked for passengers’ patience during this temporary suspension.

A source familiar with the matter told our publication that up to five weekly round-trip flights could be operated profitably on the route. However, the regional airline was unable to provide the necessary capacity.

Nevertheless, the source added that the suspension is temporary, as Aeroexpress is not only preparing to restart the service but is also working on broader regional aviation developments, including initiatives involving other Hungarian airports.

As previously reported, Aeroexpress Regional launched its operations in September 2022 using BASe Airlines Embraer E120 aircraft. Meanwhile, BASe Airlines continues to operate its domestic flights in Finland under a public service contract without any changes.
