Will Air Serbia fly to Toronto?

Will Air Serbia fly to Toronto? The Serbian carrier is exploring the possibility of launching seasonal summer flights between Belgrade and Toronto as part of its broader strategy to expand operations in North America. According to EX-YU Aviation News, the potential introduction of the Toronto route is being considered alongside the airline’s ongoing negotiations with Florida authorities to establish nonstop flights to Miami.

The Serbian national carrier is contemplating year-round service to Miami and a seasonal operation to Toronto, reflecting the nature of passenger demand between the two cities. Air Serbia has previously noted that travel to Toronto is highly seasonal and largely one-directional. Demand from Toronto to Belgrade typically peaks in the early summer months, while return traffic surges later in the season.

Toronto remains Belgrade Airport’s busiest unserved long-haul destination. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), which operates Toronto Pearson International Airport, has confirmed ongoing efforts to establish a direct air link to the Serbian capital. “Serbia continues to be a target for Toronto Pearson to expand our global reach, and we are working closely with new and existing partners on how we can better serve both Serbia and Canada,” a GTAA spokesperson stated.

Progress toward direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto has been supported diplomatically as well. The Canadian Embassy in Belgrade highlighted that Canada and Serbia signed an Air Transport Agreement in May 2018, facilitating the regulatory groundwork for Air Serbia to launch the route. “The Embassy of Canada has supported the Serbian national air carrier’s efforts in receiving these permits, but the decision on further developments rests with Air Serbia,” the Embassy said.

Meanwhile, a decision on the Miami service is expected later this year. Emir Pineda, Director of Marketing and Air Service Development at Miami-Dade Aviation Department, recently commented on the progress of discussions with Air Serbia. “We have been working on this effort for two years now. These discussions have been progressing very well. We are very close to starting cooperation with Air Serbia and, hopefully, by the end of the year or early next year, we will be able to announce flights between Belgrade and Miami,” Pineda said.

If finalized, the new routes would mark a significant milestone in Air Serbia’s long-haul network expansion and strengthen transatlantic connectivity for travelers in both Serbia and North America.
