Potential New Air Route: Budapest–Xiamen Connection Under Consideration

Potential new air route: Budapest–Xiamen connection under consideration. A new long-haul air route could soon connect Budapest and Xiamen, a major coastal city in southeastern China. Industry sources suggest that discussions are underway regarding the feasibility of launching direct flights between Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) and Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN).

Xiamen, a key economic hub in Fujian Province, is home to a thriving business sector and one of China’s busiest ports. Establishing a direct connection could strengthen economic, trade, and tourism ties between Hungary and China. With Budapest already serving as a gateway for several Asian carriers, the addition of a Budapest–Xiamen route would further expand travel options for both business and leisure passengers.

While no official announcements have been made yet, airlines such as XiamenAir, which operates an extensive international network, could be potential candidates for launching the route. If approved, flights may commence within the next year, offering a direct link between Central Europe and one of China’s rapidly growing metropolitan regions.

Stay tuned for further updates as negotiations progress.
