The momentum of Liszt Ferenc International Airport remained unbroken in February 2024: the number of passengers increased by nearly 16% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,249,814.
Several factors contributed to these record numbers: the growing travel enthusiasm of Hungarians, Budapest’s tourism appeal, and the strategic developments by Budapest Airport and VINCI Airports. Since the beginning of the year, seven new routes have been announced, including easyJet’s new flight to Nantes. Among the most popular destinations are London, Istanbul, Rome, Paris, and Milan, according to Budapest Airport.
There were also outstanding results in cargo transportation: the February cargo volume of 29,063 tons represented a growth of more than 44% and surpassed the performance of Vienna and Munich. Budapest has become a key distribution hub in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly due to shipments arriving from Asia. This success has not gone unnoticed: Budapest Airport has been nominated for the “Regional Cargo Airport of the Year” award by Air Cargo Week.
The airport is also focusing on sustainability: new energy-generating exercise bikes have been installed in the terminals, allowing passengers to charge their smart devices with their own energy. This innovative service will soon be available in a child-friendly version as well.
