Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air will launch direct flights between Brașov and Katowice, Poland, starting March 31, 2026. The new route will operate three times per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
According to BoardingPass.ro, Brașov Airport is offering significant incentives to airlines that open new routes. Carriers will benefit from a 60% discount on airport fees in the first year, 50% in the second year, and 40% in the third year, encouraging the launch of additional services.
These incentives may also attract other airlines, but for Wizz Air, this represents an important opportunity to expand its network at lower operational costs. Currently, Wizz Air is the only airline operating scheduled flights from Brașov Airport, with services to Budapest, Dortmund, and London-Luton. Starting October 2025, the airline will also launch new routes to Memmingen, Nuremberg (Germany), and Naples (Italy).
The new Brașov – Katowice route is part of Wizz Air’s broader strategy to strengthen air connectivity between Romania and Poland. Katowice, located in southern Poland, is close to major tourist destinations such as Wroclaw and Krakow, making it especially appealing for travelers looking to explore the region.
Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, stated:
“We are delighted to expand our route network from Brașov, offering travelers direct and affordable access to more European destinations. Currently, we operate flights to seven destinations from this beautiful Transylvanian city, and the new connection to Katowice reflects our commitment to improving regional connectivity while staying true to our ‘Customer First Compass’ strategy, which focuses on punctuality, innovation, and service. As the largest airline in Romania, we remain dedicated to long-term growth in this market.”
