The Budapest Airport has launched a joint initiative—first of its kind in Europe—with companies involved in air cargo transport to obtain the CEIV Li-batt certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which ensures the highest standards for handling shipments containing lithium batteries.

The certification process involves ground handling companies Celebi Aviation and Menzies Aviation, freight and logistics firms DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, Scan Global Logistics, HGL Group Hungary, and Ghibli Group, as well as the cargo airline Hungary Airlines, in cooperation with the airport operator—Budapest Airport announced on social media.

The project builds on the experience gained during the successful acquisition of the CEIV Pharma pharmaceutical logistics certification, which was obtained in 2021 through a similar collaborative effort involving freight forwarders, carriers, and ground handling companies at Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
