According to BoardingPass.ro, Romania’s air travel market continues to be dominated by Wizz Air, with one out of every two passengers choosing the airline for flights to and from the country in 2025.
The Romanian aviation market maintained strong growth in 2025, reaching 28.5 million passengers. Wizz Air remained the market leader with an estimated market share of around 51%.
The Hungarian low-cost carrier transported approximately 14.5 million passengers to and from Romanian airports last year, representing a 13.1% increase compared to 2024.
Wizz Air launched more than 50 new routes from nine Romanian airports in 2025 and operated around 75,000 scheduled flights on the local market. However, the airline did not disclose how many routes were discontinued during the year.
The airline also reported a flight completion rate of 99.7% on services to and from Romania in 2025, an improvement compared to the previous year.
Wizz Air’s growth in Romania was supported by the allocation of eight new aircraft to its local bases, enabling the reopening of its operational bases at Bucharest Băneasa Airport and Suceava Airport.
In addition, the airline expanded its operational bases and route network at Bucharest Otopeni Airport as well as at the airports of Craiova, Sibiu, and Timișoara during the past year.
Across its entire network, Wizz Air operated approximately 335,000 scheduled flights in 2025 and launched over 320 new routes. The total number of passengers carried reached 68.6 million, marking a 9.4% increase compared to 2024.
With around 21% of its passengers traveling to and from Romania, the country continues to be one of the largest markets for the low-cost carrier.
