The Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines has suspended two of its routes to Podgorica after a sharp decline in passenger numbers, following Montenegro’s decision to end visa-free travel for Turkish citizens. The airline has discontinued its services from Ankara and Izmir, but continues to operate flights from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport to the Montenegrin capital — for now.
The move highlights how quickly the aviation market reacts to changes in visa and entry regulations, especially in the case of short-term leisure travel. As a result of the decision, air connectivity between Turkey and Montenegro has been significantly reduced, after having expanded rapidly in recent years, particularly during the summer season.
Turkish Airlines and Air Montenegro have so far made no adjustments to their schedules and continue to operate their existing services between the two countries, while monitoring demand levels.
