Brașov–Ghimbav International Airport continues to expand in 2026, with new routes and ambitious plans for the future. After the introduction of destinations such as Rome, Katowice, and Warsaw, other destinations are under consideration, including Paris and cities in Spain, according to Radio România Brașov FM.

“New routes are planned; unfortunately, I cannot disclose them because we have NDAs signed with the airlines. We have also lobbied for Brussels, but you should know that there is very strong demand for Spain. The highest demand is for Spain and for other destinations in Italy. At the same time, Paris—which ranks third in the preferences of Brașov residents and those who completed the questionnaire by our friends at Transilvania University—Paris is third as a scheduled route and second as a holiday destination. I believe it would have a very high load factor,” said Daniel Micu, the airport’s general director.

Another important priority for 2026 is the opening of a Wizz Air base in Brașov, a step that would transform the airport’s operations.

“Our priorities for 2026 are to convince our partners at Wizz to establish a base in Brașov, and in this regard we are having quite concrete discussions with them and I believe we are on the right track. Depending on the intentions of the airlines operating here, we will also adapt the schedule accordingly—that is, we are prepared to implement 24/7 (H24) operations in every respect, but we will do so once an airline establishes its base here and requests H24 operations,” Micu explained.
