AEGEAN, Greece’s flag carrier, has placed an order for eight more Airbus A321neo aircraft, increasing its total commitment to the A320neo family to 58 aircraft, including those already delivered.

Strengthening Fleet Expansion On March 14, Airbus and AEGEAN jointly announced the airline’s latest acquisition of eight A321neo aircraft. This order further boosts AEGEAN’s backlog of A320neo family aircraft, which now stands at 58 confirmed units.

Of these, 34 have already been delivered, including one A320neo received in early 2025. The airline expects Airbus to deliver four more A320neo/A321neo aircraft throughout the year.

Furthermore, 37 out of the 58 aircraft on order are A321neo variants, including four A321LR models. These aircraft feature extended range capabilities and a newly designed passenger cabin tailored for flights of up to 7.5 hours, allowing AEGEAN to expand into new markets.

According to ch-aviation data, AEGEAN’s current fleet includes 20 A320neo and 14 A321neo aircraft. However, five A320neo and six A321neo jets are currently inactive. All 34 A320neo family aircraft are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, also known as Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. These engines have been affected by accelerated inspections and removals due to issues with contaminated powdered metal used in manufacturing.

Commitment to Growth Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN’s CEO, emphasized that the additional A321neo order plays a crucial role in the airline’s expansion strategy.

“We have a clear preference for the larger-capacity, extended-range A321neo, which will soon make up two-thirds of our Airbus fleet,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Airbus for their partnership, assuring passengers that AEGEAN will leverage the new aircraft to enhance its services, introduce new destinations, and improve travel experiences.

Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Executive Vice President of Sales at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, welcomed AEGEAN’s decision to continue expanding its A321neo fleet.

“This order reaffirms AEGEAN’s commitment to operational excellence and passenger satisfaction. We value our strong collaboration and look forward to supporting their growth within Europe and beyond.”

A Previously Undisclosed Deal While AEGEAN’s order was only recently announced, it may not be a new deal for Airbus. On March 7, the manufacturer disclosed its February orders and deliveries, which included two new transactions: six A321neo aircraft for Korean Air and eight A321neo aircraft from an undisclosed customer. The latter could likely be AEGEAN’s order.

So far in 2025, Airbus has secured 65 net orders, including 22 A320neo and 15 A321neo aircraft. This figure excludes a separate March 12 order of 50 A320neo family aircraft by leasing firm Jackson Square Aviation.

The recent order further solidifies AEGEAN’s commitment to expanding its operations and modernizing its fleet, reinforcing its position as a leading carrier in the region.
