Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air announces two new destinations from Cluj-Napoca for the summer season of 2026: Malta and Dubrovnik.
Starting on May 22, Wizz Air will expand its offer by launching a connection to Malta, operated twice a week, every Monday and Friday.
One day later, on May 23, the local network in Cluj-Napoca will be strengthened with the introduction of new flights to Dubrovnik, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
On the other hand, it was recently announced that Wizz Air has decided to stop operating regular flights from Bucharest to Maastricht Airport (Netherlands). The decision comes after the airline postponed the launch of the route by almost half a year, according to BoardingPass.ro.
Last summer, Wizz Air announced two new routes to be operated starting in October 2025 from Henri Coandă International Airport Bucharest to Paris Orly (France) and Maastricht (Netherlands).
Currently, the company has 234 routes for sale from 14 airports in Romania, connecting passengers to 83 destinations in 27 countries. Over its 19 years of activity in Romania, Wizz Air has established nine operational bases and currently employs more than 1,600 staff.
The company has recently reached the milestone of 1,000 operated routes, currently connecting 200 destinations in around 50 countries. In 2025, Wizz Air launched about 300 new routes.
Wizz Air entered the Romanian market in 2007. The airline carried its first 100 million passengers in 11 years and doubled this number in just four years. Passenger numbers grew from 200 million to 300 million in three years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Subsequently, the company added another 200 million passengers in the last three years, reaching the threshold of 500 million passengers nearly 22 years after its launch.
