Wizz Air is set to significantly expand its presence in Budapest, adding another aircraft to its base and increasing the number of stationed jets to 18 next year. With this move, the airline plans to boost its available seat capacity on Hungarian routes by 900,000, reaching a total of 9.1 million seats in 2026. Among the newly introduced destinations are Bergen, Lamezia Terme, and Rimini.
Speaking from New York during an online press briefing on Tuesday morning, Wizz Air CEO József Váradi outlined the next phase of the airline’s Hungarian growth strategy. He confirmed that the expanded Budapest-based fleet and the additional seat capacity will put the airline’s Hungarian operations 44% above pre-pandemic levels.
In total, Wizz Air will operate 75 routes from Hungary to 35 countries next year. Of these, 59 will run year-round, 13 will be summer-only, and 3 will serve as winter seasonal connections.
